Risky Disko Presents: SPARE TIME

with DJs Greg D & Crouse

Friday, 23 September | 9pm-2am | FREE

Risky Disko is Philadelphia DJs Greg D and Crouse. Their journey began through a mutual friendship and love for classic disco and house music. Using these genres as a framework for their sets, they take inspiration from whatever groove suits the mood. Pulling from funk and disco, to classic house, Balearic, no wave and psychedelic, this duo has taken the time to understand how the dance floor has changed over the years. Both strive for the new and different, no matter how classic or current the period is in which it originated.

In 2013, Risky Disko earned a residency at The Dolphin Tavern where they currently host a monthly party, Try It Out. The party has included guest DJs such as Juan MacLean, Rory Phillips, Sleazy Mcqueen, Joe Goddard, Joakim, Medlar, Moon Boots, Eric Duncan and Holy Ghost!. In 2013, Risky Disko started a weekly party called The Wet Boogie, hosted at Ortlieb’s Bar.

Their goal: to guide you on a journey through the decades...but be all great journeys, there involves some element of RISK.

Not only is South Bowl an extraordinary bowling alley, it’s also an amazing party spot! Here, we have our awesome roof-deck, which is home to many parties and artsy views. Surrounded by a lush plant border, the roof-deck is located on the second story, and over-looks the surrounding area. Some events hosted here include Unconditional Love. This rooftop reggae fest (Presented by Solomonic Sound System) occurs the last Sunday of every month this summer! (So don’t miss it on August 30th) Kids bowl free during this, and there’s a specialty food menu on the roof deck all afternoon! On July-18th, we had the Pop up Shake down on the Roof top! This included DJs Rob Paine & Willyum, Who’s who, and Lee Jones. On June 21st, there was SoulnSol on the rooftop. This included music and some good times on a lazy Sunday afternoon! There was music by Ed Christof, Shearn, and others at this awesome dance party. Have no fear if you missed these though! There are more magnificent parties to come in the future, as you can see/check out by selecting calendar on the sidebar located to your left!

Here at South Bowl, we have a magnificent wood burning pizza oven! Just biting into one of these pizzas’ leaves you wondering why it tastes so much better than any other pizza! Well, these wood burning ovens heat and bake better and quicker than just any old oven. Heat radiates evenly across the dome, while the floor is a bit cooler. This creates a crunchy crust with a fluffy/soft inside and a delicious smoky flavor! High temperatures produce an incredible taste and look. This kind of pizza is way out of normal pizzas’ league! Plus, here at South Bowl we have the amazing Jenny Choplin preparing our pizzas’. (They are guaranteed delicious!) Some incredibly yummy pizzas’ of ours include the amazing ‘Shroomin pizza; Smoked Salmon Pizza; and Sergeant Pepper! So come on down and check these bad boys out! Also be sure to check out the full pizza menu in "Food & Drinks" located on the sidebar to your left!

Let’s welcome our newest arcade game “Dig Dug”! A classic from 1982, even today it’s fun to play. Travel underground as the helmeted hero Dig Dug. Exterminate all underground enemies, such as the fire breathing Fygars, or the round Pookas. From dropping rocks on them, to inflating them with an air pump, there are several ways of doing so. (Try not to die yourself though!) The further down you dig, the more points you get! The ground layers are even color coated. Dig Dug was created in 1982 by Namco, which also created games such as “Pac-man” and “Galaga”. So, come on down to South Bowl and help Dig Dug on his journey of underground monster extermination!

Though the staples on our menu are not to be overlooked, the new seasonal additions prove yet again that we are not your average bowling alley!

Some of our new  Summer additions include:

Buffalo Chicken Steamed Buns with shredded chicken, blue cheese, pickled onion and celery ribbons.

Beet and Potato Salad with goat cheese, haricot vert, radicchio and toasted almonds in a red wine vinaigrette.

Korean Fried Chicken Tacos with kimchi and Asian slaw on a flour tortilla.

“The Duck Abides” BBQ shredded duck confit with apple and jalapeno slaw on a snowflake roll.

Our wood oven pizza menu got a mini makeover as well. New summer additions include:

Smoked Salmon with crème fraice, fior di latte, mozzarella, smoked salmon, dill and everything bagel spice.

Dante’s Inferno, our signature margherita pizza with cherry peppers, pepperoni and chili oil.

The Don, red sauce, mozzarella, roasted red peppers, garlic and sweet Italian sausage.

New to the beverage menu are our “in season” cocktails and draft beer rotation.

Sip on these Summer faves on our outdoor roof deck:

South Philly Infusion with Jim Beam honey infused with apricot and ginger served over ice and topped with club soda and a dash of bitters.

The Big Ginger with 2 Gingers Irish Whiskey, gingerle, and a squeeze of fresh lemon and lime.

Sound good? You know what’s better? All of these dishes are available right on your bowling lane.  You can sit and eat at a table anywhere – we prefer a little fun in between bites!

See full menu on our “Food & Drinks” page!

One of the last (but certainly not least) steps to completing South Bowl was installing the lanes. We wanted to capture the amount of time and effort that goes into this process in a fun 4-minute clip! Just to put it into perspective, these 4 minutes really lasted 2 months! Here’s a look at the craft of installing, sanding and finishing 26 certified, league-sanctioned bowling lanes. Enjoy!

We have been lucky to host the Philadelphia Futures’ “Get in the Game” Fundraiser at North Bowl for the past 5 years and this year we were so excited that South Bowl was open in time to play bowl! This year it truly was “A whole different Bowl Game”. Raising over $175,000 and counting more than 500 supporters, including Phillies players, media celebrities and members of the region’s business community. The Get in the Game guests bowled in the tournament, participated in “Be a Phanataic” raffle, helped build Philadelphia Futures’ Field of Dreams, competed in a game on Non-Trivial Pursuit and were engaged in the evening’s live auction, selfie stations, and other fun activities.

Stay tuned for details about our 2016 “Get in the Game” Fundraiser!

Monday, March 30th was definitely a night to remember. After years of scouting, planning and perfecting the venue, South Bowl has officially opened our doors for business. The amount of support from family, friends, and the community was truly amazing! More than 400 guests enjoyed appetizers, bowling, drinks, music and dancing.

Guests entered the venue to the sounds of The Sermon: a classic soul, funk and jazz band. The music provided the perfect start to a night of socializing and fun. As the night went on the music turned up – DJ Frosty, resident DJ (and friend!) of North Bowl spinned in front of a live video production synced to upbeat funk and classic hip hop.

Everyone sipped on beer and wine and enjoyed a variety of South Bowl’s signature dishes. Items included: Chopped Kale Salad, Caprese Salad, Falafel Bar, Soy Glazed Salmon, Short Rib Quesadillas, Sliders, Meatball & Basil Skewers, wood-oven pizza and so much more!

This was such a proud moment for the Daskal family, and everyone in the room could feel their love as they thanked all those that helped make South Bowl possible.

The lanes, our glasses and our stomachs were full all night. We couldn’t have asked for a better VIP Grand Opening. Thank you to everyone who shared our special night with us! We hope to keep the party going.
